EXAMS COMPETITIONS

PUT YOUR TRAINING TO THE TEST

Medal Examinations.  When our dancers meet the required standard, they are given the opportunity to take dance examinations in Disco Freestyle and Rock n' Roll with the Imperial Society Teachers of Dance.  These exams will be offered at least once a year.

Competitions are available for all of our dancers who have taken their ISTD exam within the last year.  They are able to compete in Freestyle, Street, Slow and Rock n' Roll genres.  We attend our area competitions and Nationals at Guildford.  This gives our dancers the opportunity to show off their skills and if successful they are awarded trophies and medals.

VARIED STYLES

Freestyle is a popular form of dance in the UK today. It involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps, as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of arm and hand actions. The music can be fast and rhythmic or slow and sensuous, allowing dancers of all ages to use freedom of expression to enhance their style.

Rock'n'Roll is a very athletic, competitive form of partner dance that originated from lindy hop. Unlike lindy hop, however. It is danced by both couples. This is normally a very fast and physically demanding dance

Street Dance is a style of dancing to Hip-Hop and othe popular music.  Since the R&B explosion street dance has become a youth craze.  It is very energetic and requires a lot of strentgh, balance, co-oridnation and some agility.  There aren't any rules.  It's an art for that can help with self discovery.
